Drydocks World – Dubai has built the seismic vessel NB65 for its client WesternGeco. A naming ceremony for the vessel, now called ‘WG Cook’ was held at the Dubai yard on July 1, 2010. The ultra modern high capacity 12-streamer 3-D seismic vessel is the second built at the yard for WesternGeco, a business segment of Schlumberger and one of the world's leading geophysical services company.

Crude Carriers Corp. yesterday announced that it has agreed to acquire two modern sistership Suezmax-class oil tankers, the M/T Amoureux (150,393 dwt) and the M/T Aias (150,096 dwt) from unrelated third parties, for a total purchase price of $66.2 million per vessel.

Frontline Ltd. announce the acquisition of two double hull VLCC tankers Callisto Glory and Andromeda Glory from an unrelated 3rd party. The two 321,300 dwt vessels are built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. in South Korea in 2009 and are of high specification. The vessels are expected to be delivered in the period May to June 2010.

Crude Carriers Corp. (NYSE: CRU) announced that on March 26 it took delivery of the M/T Alexander the Great, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) with carrying capacity of 297,958 mt, from Universal Shipbuilding Corporation at the Ariake Shipyard in Japan. The M/T Alexander the Great is the first of the three vessels comprising the company's initial fleet and was acquired at a purchase price of $96.5m.

Stena Bulk of Sweden will be adding another two modern Suezmax vessels to their Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool The 159,999 metric ton new building vessel, Yasa Scorpion, being constructed at Samsung Shipbuilding in Korea, is set to be delivered to Stena Bulk on twelve month T/C and consequently be inserted into the Pool in May this year when delivered from the yard.

Wärtsilä has signed a contract with the STX Finland Oy shipyard in Rauma, Finland, to deliver four Wärtsilä 32 engines for a Polar Supply and Research Vessel. The owner of the vessel will be the Republic of South Africa's Department of Environmental Affairs, and it will be operated by SMIT Amandla Marine, of South Africa.

Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) (NYSE:TNP) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with a state oil company for the sale of the 2003-built aframax tankers Marathon and Parthenon for a combined price of $78m. One vessel will be delivered to its new owner at the end of February and the other at the end of April, at the expiration of their voyage charters.

Stena Bulk has confirmed an order for two in-house designed Suezmax tankers from Samsung, South Korea for delivery in 2011.
The 158,700 dwt vessels, with a length of 274 metres and a beam of 48 metres, will be when delivered the largest tankers in Stena Bulk’s fleet. Also included are two optional sister vessels, declarable spring 2010.

Stolt-Nielsen S.A. (Oslo: SNI) says it has reached an agreement with Korea's SLS Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (SLS) to buy four 44,000 dwt parcel tankers.
Stolt originally ordered the ships in June 2005. but had canceled the four newbuilding contracts, citing extensive construction delays.

STX Finland Oy and the South African Department of Environmental Affairs signed a contract for construction of a Polar Supply and Research Vessel. The ship with a value of approximately $1700m will bring some 600 man-years of work. The ship will be built in the Rauma shipyard and it will be delivered in spring 2012.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will award a $123m contract to Marinette Marine to build a 254-ft. Alaska Region Research Vessel. When complete, the vessel will be capable of breaking ice up to 2.5 ft. thick.
“Ocean scientists need this ice-capable vessel now, more than ever before, to study the changes occurring in arctic waters,” said Denis Wiesenburg, a co-principal investigator on the project and the dean of the UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
