General information for existing ships, i.e. constructed before 2010-01-01.
In order to implement the operational requirements for the load testing of gangways and accommodation ladders stated in MSC.1/Circ.1331, the fi rst load test is to be carried out in conjunction with the delivery of the vessel or, for ships delivered before 2010-01-01, at the fi rst scheduled dry-docking of the vessel after 2010-01-01

Accommodation ladder
The maximum operating load is assumed to be marked on accommodation ladders that are satisfactorily arranged in accordance
with the specifi ed standards.

When the maximum loads are not known, we suggest establishing the maximum allowed distributed load by loading the ladder/gangway until the maximum
allowable defl ection is reached (L/75 for aluminium), limited to 735 N/step, ref. MSC.1/Circ.1331 item 5.3.2.3.

This achieved load will then be used as a static test of the accommodation ladder as arranged in order to check the suspension
arrangement, including the winch’s holding capacity.

The corresponding load is to be marked on the ladder.

Gangway
According to the specifi ed standards, gangways are assumed to be marked with the maximum operating load.

When the maximum loads are not known, we suggest establishing the maximum allowed distributed load by loading the gangway until the maximum allowable defl ection is reached (L/75 for aluminium),
max 5000 N/m2. The maximum load is the test load divided by 1.25.

The achieved test load and working load are to be marked accordingly on the gangway.
